Some Thoughts on the Etymology of Personal Suffixes in Turkish

Abstract

In Turkish grammar and independent studies, it is seen that all situations and perspectives regarding the nature of personal suffixes are analyzed. However, considering the assumptions regarding the formation of personal endings in Turkish Turcology, it is possible to divide those interested in the subject into two: I. Researchers who argue that there are three types of personal endings; II. Researchers argue that there are four types of personal endings by distinguishing between imperative and optative moods. In this study, personal endings that are stated to be of imperative and optative etymon will be excluded from the subject, and it will be stated that personal endings that are stated to be of possessive and pronoun etymon are added only to personal pronouns.

Türkçe dilbilgisi ve müstakil çalışmalarda, şahıs eklerinin doğasına ilişkin bütün durum ve bakış açılarının analiz edildiği görülmektedir. Bununla birlikte Türkiye Türkolojisi’nde şahıs eklerinin oluşumuyla ilgili varsayımlar göz önüne alındığında konu ile ilgilenenleri ikiye ayırmak mümkündür: I. Üç tip şahıs eki olduğunu savunan araştırmacılar; II. Emir ve istek kiplerini ayırt ederek dört tip şahıs eki olduğunu savunan araştırmacılar. Bu çalışmada, emir ve istek kökenli olduğu belirtilen şahıs ekleri, konunun dışında bırakılarak iyelik ve zamir kökenli olduğu belirtilen şahıs eklerinin yalnızca şahıs zamirlerinden ekleştiği ifade edilecek, dolayısıyla Türkçede zamir ve iyelik kökenli şahıs eklerinden ziyade yalnızca zamir kökenli şahıs eklerinin var olduğu görüşü savunulacaktır.
