Okul Öncesi Dönemde Uygulanan Akıl ve Zekâ Oyunlarının Çocukların Duygusal Zekâ ve Yürütücü İşlev Becerileri Üzerindeki Etkisinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

İlgili çalışmada akıl ve zekâ oyunlarının okul öncesi dönemdeki 60-72 aylık çocukların duygusal zekâ ve yürütücü işlev becerileri üzerindeki etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmanın bu amacına göre araştırma yarı deneme modellerden biri olan eşitlenmemiş kontrol gruplu modele göre tasarlanmıştır. Bu bağlamda çalışma 16 okul öncesi dönemdeki çocukla gerçekleştirilmiştir (nd=9, nk=7). Çalışma kapsamında araştırmacı tarafından sekiz hafta boyunca, haftanın üç günü olmak üzere deney grubundaki çocuklara akıl ve zekâ oyunları uygulanmış, kontrol grubuna ise sınıf öğretmeni tarafından günlük etkinlikler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada akıl ve zekâ oyunlarının çocukların duygusal zekâları üzerindeki etkisi “Sullivan Çocuklar İçin Duygusal Zekâ Ölçeği” ile yürütücü işlev becerileri üzerindeki etkisi ise “Çocukluk Dönemi Yürütücü İşlevler Envanteri” ile incelenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistiksel yöntemler, “Mann Whitney-U Testi” ve “Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar Testi” kullanılmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlar incelendiğinde, deney grubuna uygulanan akıl ve zekâ oyunlarının çocukların duygusal zekâ becerilerinden duyguları algılama ve duyguları yönetme becerilerini desteklemediği, duyguları anlama alt boyutunda ise anlamlı bir fark olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. Duygusal zekâ toplam puanlarına bakıldığında ise akıl ve zekâ oyunlarının deney grubundaki çocukların duygusal zekâlarını desteklediği, kontrol grubundaki çocukların duygusal zekâ öntest-sontest toplam puanları arasında anlamlı fark olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen diğer bir sonuca göre, akıl ve zekâ oyunlarının deney grubundaki çocukların yürütücü işlev becerilerinden çalışan bellek ve ketleyici kontrol becerilerini desteklemede etkili olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Kontrol grubunda ise çalışan bellek alt boyutunda anlamlı bir fark gözlemlenmezken, ketleyici kontrol becerilerinde anlamlı fark görülmüştür. Yürütücü işlev becerileri toplam puanlarına bakıldığında da akıl ve zekâ oyunlarının deney grubundaki çocukların yürütücü işlev becerilerini desteklediği, kontrol grubundaki çocukların yürütücü işlev öntest-sontest toplam puanları arasında anlamlı fark olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of mind and intelligence games on the emotional intelligence and executive function skills of children aged 60-72 months in the pre-school period. The study was designed according to the nonequivalent control group model, one of the quasi-experimental designs. The study was conducted with 16 preschool children (ne=9, nc=7). The researcher applied mind and intelligence games with the children in the experimental group three days a week for eight weeks. Meanwhile, the control group participated in daily activities conducted by the class teacher. The effect of mind and intelligence games on children's emotional intelligence was examined using the “Sullivan Emotional Intelligence Scale for Children”, while their effect on executive function skills was examined using the “Childhood Executive Functioning Inventory”. Descriptive statistical methods, the Mann-Whitney U test, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used in the analysis of the data. It was found that the mind and intelligence games applied to the experimental group did not support the children's emotional intelligence skills of perceiving and managing emotions, but there was a significant difference in the sub-dimension of understanding emotions. When examining the total emotional intelligence scores, it was concluded that mind and intelligence games supported the emotional intelligence of children in the experimental group, while there was no significant difference between the pretest and posttest total emotional intelligence scores of children in the control group. It was observed that mind and intelligence games were effective in supporting the working memory and inhibitory control skills of the children in the experimental group. In the control group, no significant difference was observed in the working memory subscale, but a significant difference was seen in inhibitory control skills. It was concluded that mind and intelligence games supported the executive function skills of children in the experimental group based on their total executive function skill scores, and that there was no significant difference between the pretest and posttest total scores of children in the control group.
