II. Meşrutiyet’ten Sonra Yabancı Okul Problemi: Mehmed İrfan’ın “Kız Mı Çiçek Mi Yahud Mini Mini Nadire” Romanı Örneği

Abstract

Tanzimat’tan itibaren süregelen Batılılaşma çabaları ve bunun getirileri II. Meşrutiyet’ten sonra da etkisini hissettirerek pek çok didaktik yayının ortaya çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Toplumu dönüştürme işlevi gören edebiyat, yenileşmenin siyasi, sosyal ve kültürel anlamda getirilerini okuyucuya aktarmada aktif bir rol oynamıştır. Bu dönemde odak noktası olan milli bilinç, eserlerin ana vurgusu haline gelmiştir. Yenileşmenin yanında geleneği de muhafaza etmeyi amaçlayan aydınlar, yabancı okulları öğrencilerin milli kimliğini inşa etme sürecinde önlerinde bulunan bir tehdit unsuru olarak kabul eder. Yazarlar, romanlarında zaman zaman bu duruma işaret ederek halka milli bilinci aşılamayı amaçlar. Meşrutiyet dönemi yazarlarından Mehmed İrfan da, 1912 tarihinde yayımladığı Kız mı Çiçek mi Yahud Mini Mini Nadire adlı romanında yabancı okulların bireyin kimlik inşasına olan etkilerini ele alır. Eser, “millî, ahlaki bir roman” ifadesiyle, Filibe Hurşit Matbaası’nda yayımlanır. Roman, Avrupa’da okuyan Nadire’nin milli ve ahlaki değerlerinden kopuşunu konu alır. Bu çalışmada, Kız mı Çiçek mi Yahud Mini Mini Nadire adlı roman Latin harflerine aktarılacak ve içerdiği eğitim meselelerine dair değerlendirmeler yapılacaktır.

The ongoing Westernization efforts since the Tanzimat and its consequences were felt after the Constitutional Monarchy II and led to the emergence of many didactic publications. Literature, which had the function of transforming society, played an active role in conveying the political, social and cultural benefits of the renewal to the reader. National consciousness, which was the focal point of this period, became the main emphasis of the works. The intellectuals, who aimed to preserve tradition as well as innovation, regarded foreign schools as a threat to students in the process of building their national identity. The authors aim to instill national consciousness in the public by pointing to this situation from time to time in their novels. Mehmed İrfan, one of the writers of the Constitutional Monarchy period, deals with the effects of foreign schools on the individual's identity construction in his novel Girl or Flower Yahud Mini Mini Nadire, published in 1912. The work is published in Plovdiv Hurşit Printing House with the expression “a national, moral novel”. The novel deals with Nadire's detachment from her national and moral values while studying in Europe. In this study, the novel Girl or Flower Yahud Mini Mini Nadire will be transferred to Latin letters and evaluations will be made on the educational issues it contains.
