Biotechnological Use of Plant Tissue Culture

Abstract

In the present day and the future, the sustainability of agricultural production is very important. It is important to grow non-pathogenic or virus-free plants to ensure sustainability in agriculture, protect the gene resources of existing plants, develop new plant varieties, and grow plants resistant to biotic and abiotic stress conditions. The field of Plant Tissue Culture serves these issues. Plant Tissue Culture is a plant production technique performed under controlled environmental conditions from plant parts such as cells, tissues or organs called explants in an artificial nutrient medium under aseptic conditions. The plants grown in tissue culture are not affected by environmental conditions. Also, these plants are given various characteristics in the appropriate culture environment. By doing so, the purpose is to obtain a disease-free plant, produce secondary metabolites, protect the gene resources of plants, solve the problems that cannot be resolved by classical farming methods, and realize high-quality economic plant production. The purpose of this paper is to provide a holistic view of tissue culture and tissue culture usage areas and to emphasize its importance.Günümüzde ve gelecekte tarımsal üretimin sürdürülebilirliği oldukça önemlidir. Tarımda sürdürülebilirliği sağlamak için patojen olmayan veya virüssüz bitkiler yetiştirmek, var olan bitkilerin gen kaynaklarını korumak, yeni bitki çeşitleri geliştirmek, biyotik ve abiyotik stres koşullarına karşı dayanıklı bitkiler yetiştirmek önem arz etmektedir. Bu konulara bitki doku kültürü alanı hizmet etmektedir. Bitki doku kültürü, aseptik şartlarda yapay bir besin ortamında adına eksplant denilen hücre, doku veya organ gibi bitki kısımlarından kontrollü çevre koşullarında bitki üretim tekniğidir. Doku kültüründe geliştirilen bitkiler, çevre koşullardan etkilenmemektedir. Bunun yanında uygun kültür ortamında bu bitkilere çeşitli özellikler kazandırılmaktadır. Bu şekilde amaç, hastalıklar taşımayan bir bitki elde etmek, sekonder metabolitler üretmek, bitkilerin gen kaynaklarını korumak ve klasik tarım yöntemleriyle çözülemeyen sorunlara çözüm getirmek, kaliteli ekonomik bir bitkisel üretim gerçekleştirmektir. Bu derlemedeki amaç ise, doku kültürü ve doku kültür kullanım alanlarına bütüncül bir şekilde bakılmasını sağlamak ve önemini vurgulamaktır.
