ANALYZING THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF FOOTBALL CLUBS LISTED IN BIST USING ENTROPY BASED COPRAS METHODOLOGY

Abstract

Performance analysis has gained significance in financial literature for firms, investors and decision-makers in recentyears. The number of studies related to performance analysis has also increased. The performance analysis for footballclubs that are traded in BIST in recent years is equally an important concept for investors and decision-makers. Thepurpose of this study was to conduct the performance analysis of football clubs listed in BIST within the period of2014-2017. For this purpose, firstly, the ratios related to the performance analysis of football clubs listed in BISTwere determined through an in-depth literature review process. The ratios were then prioritized using entropy as oneof the most used objective weighting methods in the literature. Following this, football clubs were ranked usingCOPRAS, as a multi-criteria decision-making technique. According to the findings, Beşiktaş was found as the mostsuccessful football club in terms of financial performance within the period of 2014-2017 and Galatasaray was rankedlast.
