Özet

This study investigates the effect of Zinc (Zn) and Manganese (Mn) in AZ91 and AM90 magnesium alloys that are among important magnesium alloys mechanical properties, wear resistance and machinability. Intermetallic phases found in the microstructure of AZ91 (9%Al, 1%Zn) and AM90 (9%Al,0.5%Mn) magnesium alloys was observed to affect wear resistance and machinability(cutting force). Mg17Al12 found in the microstructure of AZ91 alloy was established to reduce cutting force (increased machinability) while intermetallic phase increased hardness and wear resistance. It was found that intermetallic phases (Mg17Al12 and Al8Mn5) of AZ91 and AM90 magnesium alloys had an impact on cutting forces and machinability and mechanical properties.
