Türkiye’de Cumhuriyet Dönemi ulus devletin inşasında milliyetçilik ve dine yaklaşımın ders kitapları üzerinde analizi (1924-1945)

Abstract

Ulus-devlet, 19. yüzyıldan itibaren, modern bir mefhum ve güçlü bir paradigma olarak karşımıza çıkmıştır. Bu dönemden itibaren geleneksel kurumlar ve oluşumlar güç kaybederken, yerine modernitenin getirdiği yeni kurum ve oluşumlar gelmiştir. Değişimin başlangıç yeri olan Batı'da, ulus- devlet mefhumu özgün bir karaktere sahip iken batı dışı toplumlarda, tüm bu değişimin ana motivasyon kaynağı Batı olmuştur. Batı'da toplumsal dönüşümün doğal çıktısı sayılabilecek ulus devlet, Batı dışında, Batı'dan alıntı düşünce, tavır ve olgular üzerinden inşa edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Türkiye örneğinde de görebileceğimiz bu inşa, 20. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinden itibaren hız kazanmıştır. 20. yüzyılın ilk çeyrek asrının neredeyse tamamını savaşlarla geçiren bir devlet, nihayetinde tarih sahnesinden silinmiştir. Yerine yine bir savaş sonrasında Anadolu topraklarında mukim yeni bir devlet ve toplum inşa edilecekti. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk'ün önderliğinde bir ulus devlet inşa edilmeye çalışılmıştır. İçerisinde bulunduğu toplumun ve koşulların da etkisinde, Anadolu'da yeni bir toplum ve devlet inşasına girişilmiştir. Ulusal anlayışa sahip bir devlet kurulacak, toplum ise modern normları bünyesinde barındıracaktı. Geleneksel olanın en açık simgesi olan din ile başlangıçta birliktelik söz konusu iken, laiklik ilkesinin benimsenmesi ile dinin toplumsal ve hukuki belirleyici vasfına son verilmiştir. İnşa edilecek Ulus, milliyetçi ve seküler kimliğe sahip olacaktı. Özellikle Türk Tarih Tezi çalışması bu anlayışın en somut örneğidir. Ulus inşasında güçlü bir materyal olan eğitim ve eğitim özelinde ders kitapları başat role sahiptir. Ulus inşasında siyasal iktidarın mesajları ders kitapları sayesinde genç dimağlara ulaştırılacaktı. Ders kitaplarındaki bilgiler gündelik hayatı kolaylaştıran ve entelektüel birikime katkı sağlayan bilgiler olmaktan çok dönemin sayısal ve toplumsal mesajları olarak kabul edilmektedir. Türkiye'de ulus devlet inşasının yansıması ders kitaplarında görülmektedir.

From the 19th Century on nation-states, a modern concept, appeared as a powerful paradigm. From this period on, new constitutions and formations brought out by modernity took over on the conventional ones, which were in a power-loss. While in West, the starter cell of the change, the nation- state concept had a genuine character, in non- Western societies the main motivational source of this change was the West. Out of the nation- state, which can be regarded as the natural output of the societal change in the West, had to be constructed on thoughts, attitudes and matters of fact that were taken in from the West. This construction, an example of which we can see in Turkey, gained momentum starting from the first quarter of the 20th Century. A state that had spent the first quarter of the 20th Century at war eventually went out of existence. In place of this state, a new state and a new society would be built to reside in the Anatolian territories, yet again after a war. It was an effort to build a nation-state in the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The construction of a new society and state was embarked on, well under the influence of the very society and circumstances by which it was encircled. A state with a modern understanding would be founded, and the society was going to bear within the modern norms. While in the beginning a togetherness with religion, the most conspicuous epitome of the conventional, was the case, following the embracement of secular principle, the decisive quality of religion in social and legal matters came to an end. The nation to be founded was going to have nationalistic and secular identity. Turkish History Thesis in particular is the most pronounced example of this perceptivy. Education, an influential material in the construction of nations, and specific to education, schoolbooks have a leading role. During the establishment of the nation, the messages of the political power was going to be communicated to young minds through the textbooks. The data in those textbooks are considered as the quantitave and social dispatches of the period, rather than knowledge that eases everyday life and contributes to the intellectual
